I've been working working working on a granny square baby blanket for a few months now. I finished it just in time for my friend's baby shower this past weekend. Yay!
I first started with a pink recycled yarn from Lion Brand, and tried knitting a basket weave blanket, but I hadn't doubled up the yarn and it wasn't working with the size needle I used. It was getting down to the wire (3 months out), and knowing I also had schoolwork and internships in my schedule, I had to start on the final project ASAP!
So, I decided to go with crochet because it's quicker than knitting and would be easier on my hands (been having trouble holding little knitting needles lately). And I had just finished one granny blanket, so I thought I'd do a granny square blanket and sew the squares together. My first one!
I started working on the middle squares first because I had that yarn in my stash. It's 100% acrylic Berrnat.
Then, after I did a lot of the middle grannies in the light yellow-green, I went to Michael's (a new one opened on 96th!) and got Vanna's acrylic in the apple green. Vanna's is a little thicker than the Bernat, but this worked well for the borders and trim; it hid any holes in large stitches.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo of the completed blanket. I'll post one if I can get the final pic!
The trim (not pictured) is one row of hdc in the lighter yellow-green, then 2 rows in green, and then a scalloped edge all around. Fun!
