Apartment gardening

We are getting a little tired of living in the city.  We couldn't stand being in the city over the weekend so we made an emergency call to my mother-in-law to go visit her over the weekend.  We took the train and had a little overnight at her place, walking along her complex trails and down to get some Italian pastries.  I think we saw maybe four people along the way; you see that many people in the lobby of our apartment alone.

We also went to the local garden down the street from her.  They are celebrating their 100th birthday this year.  It was busy, thankfully, but not a New York City busy that is totally insane and annoying.  This was the kind of busy that can only be had in a sweet summer New England small town with kids pulling carts of geraniums and petunias and moms and daughters planning vegetable gardens.

We picked out some herbs to fill out our little herb garden that sits on my desk in the corner of our apartment.  But they also had little cherry tomato plants. And jalapeno pepper plants.  So, I picked up some of those too, and some chives.  So, we had to go on a mad dash to pick up some extra pots and soil once we got in the city.  We found an herb container set that works well for the oregano, peppermint and cilantro.  I was able to take out an herb that was overcrowding my basils, and planted a cherry tomato with some peppers.

I can't wait to see what happens.  They've already grown a little.  I grew up with a big garden and miss it.  Someday we'll have dirt!

I know what you mean about the city! That is why I like Hoboken so much, not really a small town, but lots of parks and more breathing room. :) Also, let me know how the plants turn out. I have tried several times to do a city garden and failed miserably. Perhaps this year will be different. ;)
