Yarn bombing and suggested new LC Subject Heading?

yarn bombed bike, east village, nyc

I saw my first yarn bombing installation a few years ago in Washington, DC, and I was totally intrigued and tickled.  I'm not a yarn bomber but I appreciate seeing the hidden fun of a knitted band on a lonesome, stark lamp post.  I first saw one in New York in Washington Square Park on a lamp post by the arch.  I giggle every time I see them!

From the website of the book titled "Yarn Bombing" : "'Knit graffiti' is an international guerrilla movement that started underground and is now embraced by crochet and knitting artists of all ages, nationalities, and genders. Its practitioners create stunning works of art out of yarn, then “donate” them to public spaces as part of a covert plan for world yarn domination."

Above and below are some recent images I captured in the East Village while out on a morning walk of a bike and a VW bug.  Totally awesome!

My friend sent me some information for a suggested Library of Congress Subject Heading for Yarn Bombing, submitted to the Cataloging Policy and Support Office by the wonderful Sanford Berman, which I've reprinted below with permission via my friend.  As of 5 November, the Yarn Bombing heading had not made it into the LCSH listing.
