I started this knitted ascot for my mother-in-law two Christmases ago. I never quite finished it in time for 2009, but picked it up, halfway through, and finished it in time for last year.
The pattern is from Martha Stewart's January 2009 issue (available here on Ravelry and here at Marthastewart.com). I used Blue Sky Alpacas sport weight yarn on size 5 needles, and knitting for about 14 1/5 inches long because my mother-in-law is a little lady.
The design is easy, in which you create little leaves on the end, and two ribbed tubes (by casting on stitches with another ball of yarn) that allow you to pull one end of the scarf through to secure the scarf around your neck! Super cute! And it looks pretty darn chic on my MIL, if I do say so myself! Plus, the alpaca yarn is so soft and snuggly!
