I can stay in my apartment for days. I have been known to stay in my sweats doing various projects, going from one thing to the next, and then suddenly realize that I haven't left the apartment for more than 24 hours. That happened one night -- it had been a good day or more... probably more -- when I had just completed mega projects for school and had been knitting up a storm trying to get out my stress left over from school. It was dusk and I decided I needed to get outside. I decided to go get cat food.
The pet store is only a few blocks away, but it's in a fun neighborhood with lots of cute shops, so I walked a few extra blocks peeking in windows. Then, down on Thompson just one block south of where I usually turn off, I saw this super chic and somewhat barren store with what looked like a few skeins of yarn on the wall in a magnificent minty green color. Wool and the Gang. I'm not a big fan of empty stores that have 5 things on display, but I set hat aside and went inside because I needed to see that yarn!
They sell kits with super chic patterns and wonderful Peruvian wool yarn and gorgeous needles. I got just one skein of the CRAZY SEXY WOOL in magic mint and gigantic 15mm (size 19) wooden straight needles. I already had a pattern in mind for a cowl I wanted to make my sister, so I didn't need to buy the pattern. (Yet.... I do really like the Lula Hoop pattern!)
I loosely based this pattern on the Purl Bee pattern, The Eleventh Hour Scarf. I added several stitches to make it wider, casting on 9 or 11 stitches, and used a single strand because the Wool and the Gang mondo bulky yarn is gigantic. The pattern is easy: slip the first stitch and seed stitch across (knit the purls and purl the knits).
I knitted the scarf on straight needles and then stitched together with a mobius twist. You can wear around neck once, or loop twice for a tighter, warmer fit.
Note: it's just starting to snow now for the latest snow storm of the season. In anticipation of a snow day tomorrow, I think I am going to start working on the February Lady Sweater or the Kusha Kusha Scarf!
